Required: a patient kind but strong couple who can care for a kitty with special needs, live in a passive solar home with limited electricity and light and you must be self sufficient and resourceful. Our home and island are special places, but this is a very different way of living.
Spend quality time on a small Greek Island. We would prefer a mature couple but will consider all replies - you must be practical and hands-on, farm or camping background helps, and/or sustainable living. DATES: DEC. 10, 2020 TO about mid FEB., 2020 (Possibly shorter if need be, or longer if you prefer) we will take into consideration all who reply. My husband and I live most of the time on Leros Island where my work is, we are sailors and we are building the sustainable home that we live in. We have a very special kitty that we love and adore, and our life revolves around her a good part of the time, she is worth it. People and animals are on the same plane for us. SO! Are you adventuresome, hearty, resourceful, dependable and a love kitty company?..... A couple who like peace and quiet and small-island simple life? Roo has deformed legs and cannot get around very well, she is about 10, but very healthy; Roo tells you where she would like to be moved! (litterbox, food, water...outside) Roo sleeps with us, some of the night, usually asks to get up once to eat and use her litter box. Roo requires some play to keep her legs well, to just "be" with you, and loves attention; she sleeps a lot when left alone, she requires a bit of grooming where she cannot reach, sometimes a dose of olive oil by mouth (easy to administer), and weekly ear cleaning. She will win your heart and is so very friendly and gives so much love.
Wintertime is not like summer in here, there is less sunshine and it does get cold- mostly at night and if it rains for a couple of days. We encourage you to read what we have written here with care. We have had people who have loved their stay, and people who have not. We have pictures that we can you of the boat, Roo and our home and "house kitties".
This sit is suitable for independent people who are resourceful, don't need gadgets or TV,(there is internet) who know the meaning of living with no central heating -we use space heaters. You must be able-bodied and practical.(can you change a gas bottle?)
You can rent a scooter or car to explore Leros. There is bus service - runs a few times a day. Leros is 16 k by 5k-shaped like a puzzle piece. There are 3 major villages on the island & 8000 inhabitants.
Our home is in a beautiful position overlooking the sea about 300 meters above sea level, but 10 minutes by motorbike or car, to town, 1 hr. walking, 1/2 hr by bicycle - a bit steep.
The requirement would be that you do need to be able to manage the solar panels - meaning checking the voltage daily).
Our other 5 kittles live here as well, it takes time each day to give them all love. Also, we rely on small solar lights and use the wood burning stove for heat if need be. The solar panels are just for topping up s and computers.
The Greek people here are laid back and pleasant. Speaking Greek is not required. Leros does not "go to sleep" in the winter, the economy is not based on tourism alone. Some things close, but not like on other islands. This stay is best for a couple, singles have not done well.
What is most important is that you really do love kitties and understand them and be willing to "communicate" with Roo; getting to know her is a rewarding experience, her keepers have always fallen in love with her. Please drop a line if this sounds like a stay for you.
